Revenge on the roulette table

If you’re a problem gambler, or have have any problem gambling tendencies then you probably shouldn’t continue reading this post. The moral of this story may not be what you need to be hearing.

For the rest of you, with a little indulgence I’d like to brag about one of perhaps the most enjoyable 10 minutes of roulette I’ve ever played.

The story begins a few days back, with perhaps the least enjoyable 30 minutes of roulette I’d ever played. On that day I lost around 25 successive corner bets (29, 30, 32, 33) only to see the ball land on 33 on the first spin after I stopped betting. Talk about salt rubbed deep into a wound!  Details are in the forum thread, Today was just not my day

Don’t chase your losses, they say.

If it’s no longer fun walk away, they say.

Online gambling, too easy to bet…too easy to lose, they say.

All very sage advice. But advice I chose to completely ignore, which is OK because I’m not a problem gambler…not according to the AT Risk Quiz I took at one particular website which says that most compulsive gamblers answer yes to 7 or more of the 20 yes/no questions. I was a 5, so in the clear to try and win my money back, and to do so in the exact  manner in which I’d lost it!

So began round 2 of my corner bet (29, 30, 32, 33) tussle on the live roulette table.

From the bell I immediately saw something that irked me. The 2 results immediately preceding the opening of the game window were 33, 33. Just a little more salt. Maybe a sign? Good or bad though? Hang on, I’m not suspicious. Just stupid.

Here we go…$10 on the corner.

Ball lands on 10.

$10 on the corner again.

Ball lands on 30 for a net $80 collect.

I continue with my corner bets and here’s the result sequence…

great roulette win streak

Coming in on the 10, I collected on 30, 30, (missed getting my bet down on 33), 30 and 32.

Four collects paying 8:1 out of seven bets. Would have been five collects out of seven bets but for some regrettable time wasted taking & saving a screenshot. Imagine a day at the races where you pick the winner of five races out of seven, each paying a very respectable 8 to 1?  That’s a great day at the gallops. One that would end in a lot of beer, champagne (and whatever else may be your festive choice) and general merriment.

One of  a run of collects adding up to $300 won  in less than 10 minutes. …

roulette collect

So what’s the lesson to be learned from this experience?

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again?

Not sure this one applies to casino gambling. Certainly not roulette which is usually my (and I suspect most other players’) chosen method of making regular donations to the casino.

Maybe  it’s this:

Play in moderation, and only with what you can afford to lose and you’ll get the occasional very enjoyable surprise.
