Netplay TV and Channel Five extend broadcast deal

netplaychannel5Last week Netplay TV, owner and operator of SuperCasino and Jackpot 247, renewed its broadcast deal with Channel 5.

Under the new deal, SuperCasino’s live roulette program will continue to air in the wee hours of the morning, each and every morning on Channel 5 throughout the UK until the end of 2018.

Although, taking a look at the Channel 5 TV guide it seems the number of wee hours devoted to SuperCasino have shrunk a little since it first went to air back in 2009.

Back then, and for many of the years in between, SuperCasino live roulette was a 4 hour program running from midnight to 4am. Now it is airing from around 1am to 3am each morning. It is still available from 6pm to 3am on SKY 862 and via the web.

According to a Netplay news release, SuperCasino live roulette has aired every night (morning technically) on Channel 5 since September 2009.

The airing of a real money casino game on free to air television in the UK was a first that was only made possible after Ofcom tweaked the definition of  ‘teleshopping’ to include casino games. A move that was prompted by shrinking network advertising revenues in the wake of the GFC.

Netplay’s Bjarke Larson, in his obligatory CEO news release comment, had the following to say on the deal,

“It is our intention to develop new show formats for brands under the NetPlay umbrella, which will continue the trajectory of our brand awareness and broaden their appeal. “

Channel 5’s Agostino Di Falco added,

“Six years on we are pleased to be in a position to enter into a new agreement with NetPlay taking the partnership to the end of 2018. We are particularly encouraged by NetPlay’s desire to take full advantage of its airtime through the development of new show formats which will create further value for the partnership.”
