Unibet tourneys and equalised wins

Unibet ran a live roulette tournament a couple of months ago with player rankings based on, “best equalised consecutive win over 10 rounds“.

What exactly was being equalised wasn’t specified and a discussion with casino support didn’t shed any further light on the situation.

Now, thanks to a recently added explanation of casino tournaments at Unibet, it is now clear what they are equalising.

There are two main types of tournament you’ll see at Unibet Casino:

Single biggest win over one round
OR
Best pay-out over a number of consecutive rounds (usually 20)

These types of tournament will then either be:

Based on the biggest net win(s) – calculated as win – stake
OR
Equalised which means it doesn’t depend on your stake – calculated as win/stake x 100

What is being equalised (in this type of tourney) is player versus player bet stake.

Let’s say you’ve managed to win $120 from staking $100 (ie net win $20). Meanwhile, Mr Big has won $11,000 from staking $10,000 (for a net win of $1,000).

If the tournament is based on biggest net win Mr Big is ranking (a long way) above you on the  leader board. If it’s based on equalised win, you come in ahead of Mr Big (120/100 x 100 = 120, against his 11,000/10,000 x 100 = 110).

Whether the equalisation is applied over a single bet round or a number of rounds the aim is the same…it gives smaller punters a chance to rank above bigger players in these types of tournaments. I think that’s what Unibet are trying to do anyway.

It could also be a ploy to confuse the crap out of us all.

This coming Saturday Unibet will be running a live roulette and blackjack tourney based on best equalised pay-out over 20 consecutive rounds. Details to be added in the tournaments forum before then.
