This may look a lot like an RNG roulette game but actually it’s not.

See the roulette wheel top left?  That’s not computer generated, but rather a live video insert.

The game is Live Slingshot Roulette and it’s now available on a bunch of Evolution Gaming casinos.  The above screenshot was taken at Unibet’s live casino.

Where’s the dealer?

There isn’t one.  The wheel that’s in use here is the Cammegh Slingshot2 (hence the name Live Slingshot Roulette).

It’s an automatic ball launch wheel which means no dealer is required. The ball is launched from the pocket by a puff of air and set in motion around the wheel by another randomized air jet mounted on the ball track. It’s a wheel that’s now in use in a bunch of the world’s biggest terrestrial casinos and is touted as one of the most unbiased wheels ever engineered.

Better than RNG roulette, but if you ask me a step back from good old fashioned human launched balls – especially playing online.  After all, the human element is a big part of what sets live online gaming apart from the RNG stuff.

Above is a roulette wheel called the Mercury2 produced by well known wheel manufacturer Cammegh.

If you spend a bit of time playing live roulette and you have a discerning eye then the design of this wheel and the Slingshot (bottom) may look familiar.  That’s because they seem to be the wheel of choice of most of the live platform providers.

Cammegh wheels fill the dealer studio (or casino floor) of 3 of the industry’s significant providers and are therefore used by a long list of live casinos, including:

• Evolution Gaming (888.com, Unibet, Victor Chandler, Paddy Power, Blue Square, Ladbrokes, Party Casino)
• Microgaming (Royal Vegas, All Slots, Canbet)

And these are only the guys we’ve received confirmation from.  Others yet to respond to queries as to what wheel they use may well also run Cammegh.  The only confirmation of a platform running an alternative wheel so far is Media Live (710 Casino) who are using a TCS John Huxley manufactured Saturn.

Three of the biggest and most expensive casinos ever built have opened in the last 12 months…in Singapore the Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa; in Macau the City of Dreams.

Over 750,000 square feet of gaming floor and 2000 gaming tables between them.  And guess who supplied them with roulette wheels?

Like I said…happy days at Cammegh.

And as if their Asian mega-casino success isn’t enough, they also recently proved their wheels are still sought-after by the old-school European casinos, with a recent 8-wheel order from Casino  Baden Baden.

If you haven’t played at this casino, then imagine a scaled down version of Monaco’s Monte Carlo Casino set in expansive gardens in Germany’s resort/spa town of Baden Baden.  It’s the gaming antithesis of Macau’s City of Dreams.  Strictly a jacket and tie affair, quiet, uncluttered and oozing old world charm.  Of course the one similarity is they are using the same roulette wheels!

Cammegh are also up to their eyeballs in live online gaming, supplying both Evolution Gaming and the Fitzwilliam Card Club with their Mercury 2 and Slingshot 2 model wheels.

If you talk to some roulette players they will tell you that the make and model of roulette wheel that you play on is crucial.  Why?  Well roulette wheels aren’t perfect and these imperfections can open the door to advantage play opportunities where they can be identified and exploited (see our wheel bias post).

Now not everyone subscribes to the belief that today’s wheels have an exploitable wheel bias (me for one) – simply because of today’s precision manufacture techniques.  But for those who do, we thought we’d provide some more detail around the wheels used a bunch of live casinos.

As a longer running operation than many of the dealer studios set up specifically for live streaming, the Fitzwilliam uses Cammegh’s older model Mercury wheels in addition to the latest Mercury2 models.

The Mercury was launched at London ICE show 2001 and has become Cammegh’s biggest selling wheel worldwide, installed in casinos throughout Europe, the UK and Australia.  Both Gala Group and Stanley Casinos use these wheels in their casinos.  It was touted by Cammegh as the ‘most accurate, reliable and technically advanced manual roulette wheel available in the market place’.

There are plenty of roulette players out there who subscribe to the theory that roulette is a game of physics rather than mathematics, and if they can identify physical imperfections (eg a wheel bias) then a window of exploitation is opened.  Personally, I find it pretty hard to believe that today’s wheels have physical imperfections large enough to garner a player edge, but ‘m no expert.

For the roulette wheel experts however, I thought it might be useful to have a closer look at the devices used at live casinos – the  manufacturer and model and a few of the notable wheel features; starting with one of the better known live roulette platforms – Evolution Gaming‘s.

Cammegh have pretty big wraps on this wheel, marketing it as ‘the most authentic, accurate and reliable automatic roulette wheel available anywhere in the world’.

It has a bunch of whiz-bang features including:
- random rotor speed & direction;
- random ball speed & direction;
- In-Rim laser sensors;

The ball is launched from the pocket by a puff of air and set in motion around the wheel by another air jet mounted on the ball track.  The intensity of this second jet is regulated by a random number generator.

Player’s looking for a dealer signature playing at any of the Evolution Gaming casinos will need to look for the Mercury2 wheels.

Unlike the Slingshots they are manual ball launch wheels.

Like the Slingshot however, they are machine finished for incomparable accuracy.
