Playtech tells licensee casinos - No French players
9 July 2010, Staff writer

Playtech have issued a directive to all licensee casinos to the effect that they
may no longer accept players from France. This includes new and existing
player accounts.
A statement from one Playtech licensee casino, issued to various stakeholders
including affiliates read,
"Due to recent changes in legislation regarding online gambling, Playtech-powered
casinos will continue to support the French language; however they no longer
allow their licensees to accept players from France and its territories. This
decision also affects current French players who are no longer able to place
bets at our partner casinos."
The decision comes in the wake of France's
new online gambling legislation and
associated regulations, which allow operators to apply for licenses to
conduct online poker and sports betting within France, but exclude games of
chance such as blackjack, roulette and slots.
A number of large brand operators, including
Party Gaming,
888, Unibet
and William Hill have decided to
withdraw from the market and honour the intent of the new regime while
participating in ARJEL's license application process.
The decision by Playtech marks the first by a casino software provider to impose
French market restrictions on licensee casinos.
