NetplayTV courting more UK TV channels for live roulette
26 August 2009, Staff writer
Just last
month Netplay TV Plc, owners and operators of
Supercasino, announced a distribution
deal with Scotland’s STV Group Plc. The deal will soon see Superasino's live
roulette and blackjack games telecast to over a million subscribers throughout
Scotland.
According to an interview with Netplay's CEO Martin Higginson, they are keen to
sign up more television companies to distribution deals. Particularly in
the current environment where advertising revenues generally are down and TV
companies are desperate for additional sources of revenue, and consequently more
receptive to hosting Netplay's TV gaming products.
“We see TV companies as very viable partners...there has been a decline in
advertising and they’re desperately looking for new sources of revenue.”
says Higginson. He went on to say that his company may announce more
agreements in the next “weeks or months.”
In addition to the effects of the global economic crisis, broadcasters are
fighting the inevitable migration of advertising dollars from television to
other interactive media forms, driving a 17% drop in TV advertising revenues in
the first half of calendar 2009, according to ITV Plc. Revenues from
television gambling on the other hand are on an upward trajectory. Is a
set of circumstances that paints a pretty good picture of opportunity for the
likes of Netplay and competitors like Smart Gaming Group.
