No download required

With regard to online casino game accessibility, whether you’re playing live games or RNG there are basically 2 playing options:

  • software download; or
  • browser based games

Going the software download route, you (surprise, surprise) download an executable file from the casino website to your computer, and run the install.  Included in the software is usually a range of games and other bits and pieces that you may not necessarily be interested in.  The download may take some time, depending on your connection, and will take up space on you hard drive which, if you have an old clunker like mine with dozens of casinos loaded does start to become and issue.

Going the browser based games route (also referred to as ‘instant play’ or ‘flash casino’ named for Adobe’s Flash product that often powers these games) all you do is hit the ‘play now’ or ‘instant play’ link in the casino’s website and the game loads in your browser ready to be played.  A lot simpler right.  Any catches?

Well it used to be, and may still be the case with RNG games, that the browser versions would lack a little with regard to functionality compared with their downloaded counterparts.  Graphics a bit less impressive, not quite as many features…you get the idea.

Now the cool thing about live games is that the browser based versions are typically identical to what you get if the games are accessed via the casino’s download.  All functions, features, video quality, security are the same.  So really, the need to download is just not there.

Which casinos offer ‘instant play’ live games?

A complete list is set out on our live casino summary page.
