WikiLeaks reveals Beijing’s Internet fear

Who would’ve thought there’d be anything published on WikiLeaks even remotely related to online gambling?

If there is any truth to leaked diplomatic cables coming from US diplomats in Beijing, then directives to launch cyber attacks on Google came from the top…Li Changchun.

Apparently Changchun, a power broker from within China’s Politburo Standing Committee was very upset to learn that he could ‘Google’ himself and find a whole bunch of rather negative content.

A US diplomatic cable has portrayed the Chinese leadership as obsessed with the Internet from the standpoint that it poses a threat to their control of information and therefore their grip on power.

Resident access to unfiltered information, means of private and public communication and certain services (gambling included of course!) is viewed very dimly by authorities.

Probably one of WikiLeaks less earth-shattering revelations…
