Unibet: adiós a España

Received a notification today from Unibet saying, “…in order to comply with the new Spanish Gambling regulations, Unibet will stop all gaming activity in Spain as of 20th of December 2011“.

In the world of online gambling this loosely translates to, “We’re going to have  a crack at securing a local I-gaming license so until we get said license we want to be seen by the Spanish regulator to be playing by all their rules”

Spain passed new remote gambling laws back in May and shortly afterward authorities issued their first license to Casino Gran Madrid who launched their online casino just recently.

I’m guessing Unibet are now standing in line for a license of their own.

What does all this mean for casino players at Unibet?  Absolutely nothing for those of you outside Spain (including all other Spanish speaking parts of the world!).  For players living in Spain…you’ll need to try other live casinos accepting Spanish players until such time as Unibet gets their license and welcomes you back!
