Need a bigger house? Try this on for size

Planned for construction on the tip of one of the fronds of Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah is a 91,000 square foot house.

In case you’re trying to get your head around this measurement, consider instead…

  • 10,000 sqaure yards; or
  • 8,500 square metres; or
  • 2 acres; or
  • just under a hectare.

That’s floor space. Not the land the house sits on!

The architects fortunate enough to land the design gig, Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen, describe the villa as having, a “delicate blending of classical and contemporary architecture”. Not sure something this big can be described as delicate. But it does look very nice. Certainly no trade off between size and opulence here.

Included are multiple pools over multiple levels, waterfalls (yes more than one), lavish gardens a private beach and by the look of it more marble than St Peters.

The house’s owner hasn’t been identified, but the list of possible suspects would be pretty short. Think Forbes rich list plus a fondness for bling (rules out Warren Buffet and Bill Gates).  My money would be on someone like Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, or one of the participants in ‘my super yacht’s bigger than yours‘ competition.

Palm Jumeirah is the first of Dubai’s ambitious man-made archipelagos being built by local developers Nakheel.

The GFC put the breaks on some of the others that were planned, including The World, The Universe and Palm Deira. It also saw Dubai’s property values slide 65% since their 2008 peak but the first half of 2013 has seen some recovery in the market.

Good time to snaffle a little bargain perhaps?
