Macau sets new gaming revenue record in February

Macau

Macau’s casinos posted a new gaming revenue record this February, taking a staggering MOP (Macau Pataca) 38 billion or approximately US$4.8 billion.

This was 40% up on February 2013 (MOP27 billion) and 32% up on January 2014 (MOP29 billion).

As always, it was gamblers from mainland China leading the charge (no doubt at the baccarat tables). Macau’s Tourist Office confirmed that  of the 1 million visitors to Macau during the new Year holiday period (31st January to 6th February), 770,000 were from mainland China.  That’s 23% up on the same period last year.

So still no end in sight for the Macau casino juggernaut, despite all sorts of rumblings about China’s economy starting to hit the skids.

At this rate Macau should soon have a single month eclipsing the Las Vegas Strip’s annual take ($6.5 billion in 2013).
