Angry Birds leads to Gambling Addiction

The Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling has just confirmed what we all suspected; smartphone video game Angry Birds is a stepping stone to gambling addiction.

Far from being developed as bit of harmless fun, the master plan behind game is to lure adults, children (probably tech savvy infants also) into the murky world of real money gambling.

Not sure how those of us who grew up in the pre-Angry Birds world ever managed to start playing games like roulette and blackjack.

Let me think. That’s right. I was intrigued by the enormous, glitzy new complex that was constructed just down the road, with it’s flashing lights, coloured water fountains and fire stacks exploding balls of flame into the night sky. The opening was epic. A World of Entertainment they called it (and still do) on the TV commercials that ran on high rotation just to make sure everyone in the country was aware it was there.

It’s called a casino, and it’s where I played the first of many hands of blackjack.

Sheldon Adelson should know what a casino is…he owns plenty of them. Possibly more square footage of table gaming floor-space than anyone else on this planet.

Mr Adelson is also the driving force behind the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling, which looks to be the PR side of his multifaceted attack on regulated US online gambling. His legislative efforts are touched on here.

Getting back to Angry Birds

The game has featured in a new advertisement produced by Adelson’s Coalition.

Here’s a video of the Ad.
