32Red turns blue for Leeds deal

Been a big few weeks for 32Red.

New live tables, and now a new sponsorship deal (announced Friday 13th) with EPL club Leeds United.

A press release on the 32Red PLC corprorate website read…

“[32Red] is pleased to announce a three year agreement to sponsor Leeds United Football Club, commencing in the 2016/17 season. The agreement provides 32Red with shirt sponsorship, access to Leeds United’s global fan base and extensive brand visibility throughout the club’s iconic Elland Road stadium.”

In a gesture to appease the fans of Leeds United and their hatred of all things Manchester United the logo will appear on jerseys in blue, rather than the casinos’ usual brand colour, red.

32Red marketing staff probably thought they had gone that extra mile to definitely win over the fans.

Not enough.

Seems Leeds fans’ dislike of Man United colors extends past the actual colour, to the word red as well. Many of them are not happy with the new deal, voicing their disapproval and intent not to buy the new look jersey, on twitter.

One suggested a casino name change worthy of the appearing on the Leeds shirt.

“Can you change your name to 32 White, Yellow and Blue?”

There are a couple of takeaways from this deal:

  1. it’s very easy to offend a passionate football supporter; and
  2. don’t do/announce deals on Friday 13th.
