The EGRB2B Awards for 2020 have just concluded. It was an awards ceremony with a difference.
Not because of the winners circle, particularly in the Live Casino Supplier category. That award went to Evolution Gaming for the 11th year in a row. They remain the award’s only winner.
The big difference was how the awards were conducted.
It’s usually a glitzy affair held at suitably glamorous venues. The Hurlingham Club in London, The Atrium at Wembley stadium and The Pavilion at the Tower of London have been past ceremony venues.
This year, attendees simply logged on to Hopin (a Zoom like broadcast platform) to view the awards over a three day period, July 21 to 23.
Not sure what the protocol was on dress code. A little more casual than the usual black tie I would’ve thought? Having to don the tux or ball gown in the office, or worse still, at home is a bit much.
Must have been a bit of a mood kill. After all, awards are a great excuse for a piss-up. Hopefully the winners made arrangements to get deservedly lubricated after logging off Hopin. Or even better, while still logged in!
The shortlist in the Live Casino Supplier of the Year category gets longer each year. On it this year were 12 hopefuls:
- Authentic Gaming
- Evolution Gaming
- NetEnt Live
- Pragmatic Play
- SA Gaming
- Vivo Gaming
There can only be one winner. Once again it was Evolution.
They don’t do podiums at EGR, but it’s likely Playtech have run second all 11 years this category has been running. Some years by a considerable margin. This year I don’y think it would have been so big. They have definitely closed the gap.
But there’s still a gap.
Speaking after the awards, Evolution CEO had the following to say about the win:
“We introduced a record number of 12 new games in that period. Our exclusive and unique game show games portfolio continued to grow with new titles such as Mega Ball and Crazy Time becoming immediate player favourites and major commercial successes.
We also continued to reinvent and reinvigorate classic casino games for the next generation of players, with Lightning Baccarat, Speed Blackjack and Power Blackjack all joining an already hugely varied and entertaining portfolio of both Live and First Person games.
Additionally, we put in place the foundations to expand our operations with the construction of our new studio in Pennsylvania, which is just one of a number of exciting new studio developments in the pipeline.”
Congratulations to all the winners.
