    Pagcor proposes Chinese worker hubs

A few news stories popping up today on PAGCOR (Philippine gaming regulator) proposal to house Chinese POGO (Philippine online gambling operators) in self contained communities or 'hubs'.

Pagcor say the proposal is a suggested solution to growing unrest from locals from soaring real estate prices and unruly behaviour from some of the workers.

The Chinese Embassy in Manila has weighed in on the proposal saying it, “may infringe on the basic legal rights of the Chinese citizens concerned.”

China would of course have a pretty dim view of the Philippines booming online gambling industry. After all, it's booming mainly because of bets being placed by Chinese citizens. Something they aren't too happy about.

The boom could be coming to an end.

Apparently Beijing is starting to exert considerable pressure on the Philippines to ban POGOs targeting Chinese citizens (which is pretty much the primary target of all POGOs).

Duterte isn't normally one to fold under pressure, but there are indications in this case the message is being heard.

PAGCOR announced has announced earlier this week that it will stop issuing new Pogo licenses until all concerns “have been addressed.”
