NetplayTV Interim Results Reveal Growing Loss
8 October 2009, Staff writer
Netplay TV Plc,
have been very busy in the last 12 months expanding distribution channels for
their live TV casino product. But as yet these efforts are yet to take
operating results into the black.
They reported their interim profits for the first 6 months of 2009 this week and
revealed a material period on period loss increase to £3.2 million (compared
with £134,000 last year). Expenses were up and gross profit from
operations (ie net player gaming losses) was down 27% to £2.2 million.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom for Netplay. Their recent efforts to
expand televised coverage of their live
for TV casino games are showing encouraging signs, with total handle or turnover
from operations reaching £204 million - an impressive 31% increase on the
corresponding period last year. The company's
Supercasino brand took bets of £43
million in August for a record monthly gross profit of £750,000.
Supercasino has for some time been broadcast on Freeview, SKY and FreeSat.
Recent deals with Virgin Media, Channel Five and Scotland’s STV Group, have seen
its potential viewer/player base increase markedly in the last year and this is
starting to be reflected in turnover numbers. The STV distribution deal
alone gives Supercasino access to almost a million subscribers throughout
Scotland.
Upbeat about future prospects, Chairman Clive Jones announced that "NetPlayTV
has successfully managed to transform itself from a small gaming business into a
respected interactive media business". He went on to say that, "In signing
new deals with some of the world’s largest media businesses, it has clearly
established itself as a serious player in the interactive television
marketplace."
