Betfair has real deal casino games – or do they?

Betfair are pretty excited about their new casino product. It’s been developed in partnership with software developer Openbet and was apparently 2 years in the making.

They’re calling it Real Deal.  Impressive…absolutely.  Unique…granted.  Exclusive to Betfair…you bet.  But real?…well actually no.

But then and again I guess it depends on your definition of real.  After all, perception is reality right?

If you believe a real deal is something that a real (flesh and blood) dealer does with real (tangible) cards then you may think the name Real Deal is a bit misleading.

If you’re like one of those guys on that TV show The Big Bang Theory and spend a good portion of your leisure time immersed in the world of virtual goblins, pixies and wizards, saving buxom, CGI generated wenches from the clutches of evil ogres in Final Fantasy or Warcraft then I guess you could call this a reality of sorts.

‘Real Deal’ is all computer generated.  The ‘dealers’ are CGI.  Betfair call them ultra-realistic CGI avatars and they even have hobbies, interests and personalities.  They do look very real but if you can’t immediately tell they’re not human then there’s something wrong with you.

The games are computer graphics and outcomes are dictated by random number generators, and currently number six in all:

•    European Blackjack
•    Vegas Blackjack
•    European Roulette
•    Money Wheel
•    Pontoon
•    Baccarat

Betfair’s Head of Games Sam Hobcraft says of the new games, “We are delighted with the product which looks stunning. The graphics are better than anything on the market.”  OpenBets CEO described them as, “a games package [that] takes online gambling to a completely new level than ever experienced before.”

I agree they’re impressive…just not what I’d call a real deal.
