Disappearing dealers. Who gets the push?

I'm new to these forums, but I've been using Playtech providers for a few months now. What I'm curious about is the restrictions placed on dealers. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the dealers I've met who are more "real" and you can have a good conversation with never seem to last long. The plastic ones, meanwhile, who come out with the same set phrases and have no conversation skills seem to be in for the long haul. Is it just that the dealers with a bit more personality get disillusioned, or are they pushed out for not conforming?

    Hi Player, welcome.

Both the things you suggest are true to varying degrees.

Playtech used to be infamous for the rules governing everything about dealer behaviour, appearance(nail polish/ lipstick colour...), all be single (wasn't true), don't smoke (wasn't true), responses they were taught to parrot answer (set phrases) and what they weren't allowed to say (eg. couldn't even mention the colours red, black or green in general conversation on the roulette tables so no books, films, etc with those in title), not yawn in front of camera, and so on. All this was monitored/scored by CSRs and reduced their take home salary. Plus Pitbosses screaming at dealers in breaks.

More recently some rules have been relaxed, but yes those who don't conform tend to move on (usually to Evolution) or get the boot (& go to Evolution ).

I've discussed the topic of 'real' dealers and what players want in several threads, you may like to read here & this thread.

Hi Fester, It's pretty fascinating. Thanks for the pointers.

So do these CSRs still exist and they are watching the dealer's every move? What rules still remain? Obviously there is the "you can't meet players outside the casino" one, but that's a given. No politics and religion discussions is another rule I know.

None of the dealers I'm familiar with seem to get a mention on this site. I was hoping for some gossip

Yes they do exist and serve another role of chat support for dealers.

Whenever you see a dealer pull out the keyboard and start typing, chances are, if it's not one of those 'standard messages' to unhappy players (etc.) or to a Pit Boss/PA, then they are likely communicating with a CSR. Sometimes it will be something just as simple as what an English, Italian/German..(on language tables) word means.

A few years ago it got so frustrating when dealers where engaging in long exchanges with CSRs etc.. I usually leave a table when the keyboard comes out as I'm not interested in having a conversation via CSR assistance.

Generally players aren't supposed to be aware of this CSR help, I suppose it's to maintain an illusion of how clever the dealers must be and so on. But it can feel at times akin to a smug quiz master with all the answers, rather than having a normal conversation with someone. Recently I came across a male dealer inviting players to ask him any question. Strangely (given what I've already said) he actually said "if I don't know the answer, I know somebody who will", but of course he didn't mention the CSR.

That's interesting. I think most of them are probably still in place, with the exception of "no saying numbers, red or black" Also, I think officially they are not allowed to flirt, but in practice some of the dealers are incorrigible flirts and it's all the more enjoyable as a result. I have noticed dealers being a little more cold and clinical recently though. I wonder if someone is telling them to be more professional.

I would love to know what dealers get sanctioned for, but it looks like they're not likely to tell me.
