William Hill gets AAMS license for Italian online casino

William Hill have just announced that they will be launching their Italian-licensed online casino later this month.

The UK based online gambling giant has been granted an Italian license by Italy’s AAMS, becoming one of the first operators to get the go ahead to market their product to Italian players.  Sports betting, poker, bingo, and horse race wagering will all be added in due course, but the first service to go live at Williamhill.it will be their online casino.

William Hill Online’s CEO Henry Birch commented on the development in press release issued late last week.

We are really excited about our Italian venture. The combination of a high passion for sports and gaming makes Italy one of the most important markets in our international expansion plans.  We’ve spent a lot of time developing the site and ensuring it conforms to the AAMS regulatory requirements. We’re delighted with the outcome of the site and we believe it will be a big hit with Italian players.

The news comes at a time when the AAMS are making concerted efforts to prevent unlicensed operators from accessing the Italian market, expanding their list of domains targeted for blocking last month to over 3000.  As it turns out Williamhill.com is actually on their list of blocked domains…all licensed activity will need to take place via the Italian domain Williamhill.it.

In terms of what they intend offering Italians from a live games perspective we’ll have to wait and see but I’d expect their Evolution Gaming live games to be available initially given these are already AAMS certified. The Playtech powered live games will no doubt soon follow.
