Galaxy Macau, quaint and understated

Macau’s latest and greatest casino opened last week to the usual casino fanfare. Named the Galaxy Macau (“The New Palace of Asia”) it isn’t, in case you hadn’t already guessed, quaint or understated.
It’s a 450 table monster that cost its owners, Galaxy Entertainment Group HK$14.9 billion to build. It includes 3 hotels with 2,200 suites, 52,000 square meters of tropical gardens, the world’s largest Sky Wave Pool (don’t know what a sky wave pool is…might also be the world’s only) and an artificial beach complete with 350 tonnes of sand.
The owners claim that the gold leaf adorning the complex’s fixtures and fittings could cover 87 football pitches if it were unpeeled and re-laid. Doesn’t sound too quaint does it?
But that’s Macau. That’s also how Macau’s gamblers seem to like it.
