Jacks or Better Draw Poker Live from Pragmatic

pragmatic jacks or better draw poker

This is Pragmatic Play’s Jacks or Better Draw Poker table, launched July 2025.

It’s effectively a live dealer version of Jacks or Better video poker. The aim of the game is to make the best 5 card poker hand, with an opportunity to discard and replace any of your initial 5 cards, to receive a payout according to the game’s pay-table.

Jacks of Better Draw Poker is better categorised as a version of live dealer video poker rather than live dealer poker where you are trying to best the dealer’s hand.

How to Play Jacks of Better Draw Poker

The mechanics of this game are super simple. After placing a main game (Play) bet, you are dealt 5 cards face up.

You are then given time to choose which of these cards to hold and which to discard and replace.

Discarded cards are replaced from a secondary deal from the same 52 card deck.

Your final hand is then compared to the game’s pay-table with a payout earned depending on the quality of the hand.

In this game both your main hand (initial 5 cards) and any additional cards required to complete your resolved hand are decided by physical cards dealt from the same 52 card deck. If you chose to hold two cards from your initial hand, then the first three additionally dealt cards will replace the three you discarded. Your final resolved hand is presented virtually, since not all players will make the same hold decisions.

Payouts – Full pay Jacks or Better

The good news is that the payouts on this game are consistent with full-pay Jacks or Better paytable. This means, that if you can make the correct hold/discard decisions, your returns playing this game will be very high (see below).

Here’s the pay table with examples of the winning hands.

Hold Strategy in case of disconnection

If you are disconnected and no cards are kept, a simplified strategy is applied:

  • If you have a pair of jacks or higher, hold the cards that make that hand rank and discard the rest.
  • If you have four cards to a flush, hold those four.
  • If you have an outside straight draw, hold those four.
  • If you have any pair, hold that pair.
  • If you have an inside straight draw, hold those four.
  • If you have a jack or higher, hold your highest card.
  • Hold no cards

You should be aware that this simplified strategy is NOT an optimal hold strategy. Here’s a more optimal Jacks or Better hold strategy that will result in a much return over time.

The Jackpot side-bet

The jackpot side bet is an optional bet you can take if you have already placed a play bet on the main game. You win the jackpot side bet if your initial five-card hand (before the decision phase) forms any of the following combinations:

  • Straight Flush – pays 20,000×
  • Four of a Kind – pays 1,000×
  • Straight – pays 100×

These big payouts might seem attractive. But considering the return to player (RTP) of this bet, it’s best left alone.

Jacks or Better Draw Poker RTP

The main game is effectively full-pay Jacks or Better video poker. As such, if you can nail your optimal hold strategy playing this game RTP is a very healthy 99.54%. The RTP based on the simplified strategy employed by Pragmatic in the case of disconnection is 96.69%.

RTP for the Jackpot side is a not so healthy 94.04%.
