A peek at Peek Baccarat Live

Peek Baccarat was added to the considerable list of Evolution live baccarat options in March 2022.

Card peek (or squeeze) on live baccarat tables isn’t new. Evolution have long offered live baccarat tables with card peek. First there was the (dealer controlled) squeeze baccarat. Then came player controlled squeeze baccarat.

But none of the card peeking on these tables effected the outcome of the game. Purely theatre.

On this new Peek Baccarat table, once you get a peek at the cards you then have the opportunity to double or triple your original bet. This all of a sudden makes the peek crucial in determining your win/loss success playing this game.

How to Play Peek Baccarat

Peek Baccarat is a Punto Banco baccarat deal (usual 3rd card rules, payouts etc) with one key difference – the ability to increase your Player or Banker bets after getting a peek at some of the initial cards.

20% Peek fee

When you place a Banker or Player bet, you are charged a 20% commission.

peek baccarat fee

This is illustrated above, where a €2 bet costs a total (see TOTAL BET bottom left) of €2.40.

The peek fee is only deducted for Player and Banker bets. If you place a Tie bet or side bet, no commission is charged. In fact, if you are taking Tie or side bets (not great bets anyway), you may as well play one of the regular live baccarat tables.

Once bets are closed the initial (2) cards are dealt face down to the Banker and Player and Banker positions, and then:

  • either 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of these cards are revealed, and
  • during this peek phase you have the opportunity to double or triple your bet.

peek baccarat 1 card revealed

In the above case, a single Player card is revealed. A message then prompts:

‘You can double or triple your bet during the peek phase’

You can also choose to leave your original bet as is.

peek baccarat 2 cards revealed

In the above case both Banker cards are revealed.

peek baccarat 3 cards revealed

In this case it was a 3 card reveal, and very unlikely to result in a Banker win!

Banker / Player Payouts:

Payouts for Banker and Player bets mirror those of the Punto Banco (or regular baccarat), that is:

  • Player: 1 to 1
  • Banker 0.95 to 1

But, and this is a very important but, the payout applies to your bet excluding the 20% commission. So in real terms, the payout is a discount to the above.

Further, in the case of a Tie your Banker/Player bets push but the commission is retained by the house.

peek baccarat win payout

Consider the above Banker win of €3.90 on a €2 bet. The real cost of this bet was €2.40, equating to a payout of 0.625 to 1.

If you’re not taking advantage of your double and triple bet opportunity you will be bleeding cash playing this game.

Doubling and tripling your bets at prudent opportunities will absorb the commission somewhat, making this a game with a pretty slim house edge.

Theoretical return

Optimal RTP (for Player bet) is 98.80%.

Quite a good return. But this is assuming optimal playing strategy for the Player bet. That is, choosing correctly to double, triple or leave your bet during every peek phase.

Regular live baccarat returns more for both the Banker and Player bet, and you have no choices to make so optimal playing strategy is assured!
