Microgaming was formed in 1994, they are based in the Isle of Man and they have a corporate bio that is the envy of the online gambling industry…
- launched first wide area progressive jackpot game in 1998;
- first online jackpot payout over $1,000,000;
- over €500 million in online jackpots paid out to date
- over 800 unique RNG casino games;
- over 225 mobile casino (native app and HTML5) games;
- founding member of eCOGRA.
Given their size and general tendency to be at the forefront of online casino game development, they were surprisingly slow to launch and grow their live games offering. Beginning with live baccarat in 2006 they gradually expanded their range of games to include roulette, blackjack and casino hold’em poker.
Presentation of their games was an acquired taste, with an uncanny RNG/robotic feel to the studio and dealers. As it turned out, players in EU markets failed to acquire the taste in necessary numbers.
In 2015 Microgaming made the decision to discontinue their EU market facing live dealer operation and partner with Evolution for supply of live games to Microgaming licensee casinos.
In 2021 Microgaming signed a similar content deal with OnAir Entertainment, making the OnAir live game suite available via the premium Microgaming platform. When you launch the games, the load screen will may say ‘from Microgaming Live’ but the games are powered by OnAir Entertainment. Some game titles may be different from those used by OnAir, but they are still the same game.

- Microgaming Cards Champion, which is OnAir’s Card MatchUp
- Microgaming Holo Roulette, which is OnAir’s Nexus Roulette
OnAir have really lent into the partnership, even adding Playboy bunny tables – a throwback to the days when Microgaming ran their own studio.
Microgaming do still provide their own live games via Asian subsidiary MG Live, established in 2017. MG Live offers a modest range of Asian market focused live games including baccarat variations and Sic Bo.
