Live dealer studio lighting

livedealer studio lightsAs live casino players we shouldn’t  have to be too concerned with the intricacies of how the games are delivered to us, but only whether or not they look and play well.

I want to see the cards/ball clearly, I want to see the dealers clearly, I want the light to be soft enough that it doesn’t feel like I’m playing cards inside a 24hr convenience store and I want this to be consistent across all tables.

I’m not really too fussed as to how all this is achieved, as long as it is. And anyway, I figured the lights used would just be those already in the ceiling of the building…flick the switch and they’re on!

I was wrong. When you do find out how much thought and technology goes into something as seemingly simple and peripheral to all the other technology involved in making live games happen it may surprise you.

At Evolution Gaming’s Latvian studio, they have recently changed their lighting design from halogens, that apparently struggled with the round-the-clock work load, to an array of the monstrosities pictured left.

They’re designed and manufactured by specialist lighting company Photon Beard, and are intended to light TV studios and film sets.

Edgar Vargas, EG’s Technical Operations Manager says the elaborate lighting set-up is necessary, “for their dimming capabilities as well as control of light spillage. We had previously used top-of-the-line, movie-quality halogen lights but found that such products were not meant for a 24/7 operation such as ours. When the decision was made to migrate to cold lights, we did extensive research to ensure that our requirements would be met.”

So there you go, not just a matter of flicking the switch.  One of the 1001 technical details that we players take for granted…as we should!
