Live game providers piling into Alberta

Both Evolution and Pragmatic Play have announced their intentions to grow their presence in the newly opened Alberta iGaming market.

On July 13 this year Alberta officially launched its open, regulated online gambling market, breaking the monopoly held by government operated PlayAlberta. Following laws passed in 2025 (iGaming Alberta Act) private operators are now able to compete with PlayAlberta under license from the newly formed Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), subject to a 20% revenue-share agreement and a centralised provincial self-exclusion program.

Unsurprisingly, providers are now piling in and Evolution and Pragmatic are front of the queue.

For Evolution, its a case of expanding their presence. They have been a certified provider of live casino games to PlayAlberta since 2021. They will now be offering their games to licensed private operators as they enter the market.

Per Jacob Claesson, Evolution’s North America CEO:

“Evolution has been proud to serve players in Alberta since 2021 through PlayAlberta. The opening of the market to commercial operators represents an exciting next step, and we are pleased to expand our presence as more operators enter the province.

A well-regulated, competitive market benefits players by increasing choice and access to high-quality entertainment. We look forward to supporting our operator partners and continuing to bring Evolution’s world-class games to players across Alberta”

Meanwhile Pragmatic has announced that they have received certification in the province to offer games across their live casino portfolio including blackjack, baccarat, roulette and a range of game shows.

Their Director of PR, Sharon McHugh, had the following statement regarding their certification.

“Alberta represents an exciting new adventure for regulated iGaming in Canada, and Pragmatic Play is delighted to be among the first suppliers bringing premium entertainment to operators and their players from day one.

Building on our strong momentum in Ontario, this expansion reinforces Pragmatic Play’s long-term commitment to the Canadian market. We look forward to working closely with partners across the province as the market continues to develop.”
