Stake secures Buenos Aires, Argentina License

Stake has expanded its presence in Latin America, securing a license to operate in Argentina’s Province of Buenos Aires.

The approval, granted by the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos, enables Stake to launch its online casino and sportsbook in the country’s most populous province, home to almost 40% of Argentina’s residents.

According to representatives of Stake, Argentina’s strong digital engagement and deep-rooted sporting culture made it an attractive destination for expansion. Diana Otalora, the company’s LatAm general manager, described the move as a “natural next step” in Stake’s regional growth strategy.

“We’ve continued to build momentum across Latin America in recent years, and this launch reflects our ambition to establish Stake as the leading entertainment brand in the region,” said Otalora.

Argentina’s online gambling market is regulated at a provincial level, with each jurisdiction responsible for its own licensing regime. While most provinces have introduced online gambling regulations, operators must navigate multiple regulatory frameworks rather than a single national system. Industry stakeholders have long argued that a federal framework would simplify market access and create a more consistent operating environment.

But even with the existing complexities, the size of the market makes it an attractive proposition for operators. According to H2 Gambling Capital, Argentina generated an estimated $5.03 billion in gambling gross win during 2025, making it one of the world’s larger regulated gaming markets.

Also, in recent times, cooperation between provincial regulators and national agencies has improved. Authorities have worked alongside organisations such as ENACOM and the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic to tackle illegal gambling activity, including website blocking and restrictions on unauthorised payment channels.

Argentina becomes Stake’s fifth regulated market in Latin America, joining Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Mexico. The company has accelerated its regional expansion in recent months as it seeks to strengthen its position ahead of major global sporting events.
