Serbia – online gambling regulations coming

Serbia’s national association of gaming operators, JAKTA, are celebrating the news that their government will be introducing legislation that will pave the way for regulated online gambling in Serbia.

Seems JAKTA have been doing a lot of work to convince the Serbian government that regulation is the way to go. President, Mirjana Acimovic, had this to say of the news:

“We can see that our conscientious work in gathering the relevant facts about gaming markets in the former Yugoslavia and the rest of Europe has been worthwhile. We compared different national regulatory models and collaborated with relevant partners such as testing laboratories, reputable companies and associations. JAKTA put a lot of effort into lobbying the government for the creation of a well-regulated gaming market.”

The Serbian Gaming Board will be the authority charged with the responsibility of handing out licenses and ensuring regulations are complied with and will need to be strengthened so that it is able to cope with its expanded responsibilities. At the helm will be director Aleksandar Vulovic.  He said that the new laws, “will lead to the opening up of the online gaming market”.

Three key components of the new law according to Vulovic are:

  1. most importantly, the controlling online gambling;
  2. electronic monitoring of operators; and
  3. streamling of gaming industry taxation.

Now starts the stampede for new licenses!
