Betfair and Barcelona sign 3 year sponsorship deal

Betfair & Barca does have a nice ring to it. Certainly better than Paddy Power Betfair although the former isn’t a merger announcement. Rather a new sponsorship deal announced Friday.

With the Spanish online gambling market starting to crank up, Betfair has signed up one of the country’s (and world’s) premier football teams in a 3 year deal starting 1 July.

It’s not a jersey deal. The Betfair name on Barca jerseys hasn’t been mentioned in either Betfair of FC Barcelona’s official releases on the new deal. So what do Betfair get?

” …image association rights, visibility of branding on the Camp Nou LED system, and a variety of digital benefits. Betfair will also have access to the players to create promotional material and develop marketing campaigns.”

The value of the deal hasn’t been disclosed.

But talking of value, to celebrate the deal Betfair have just announced that they’ll be giving 6/1 enhanced price on the Catalan giants to win La Liga in 2016/17 for any new punters signing up via the FC Barcelona website.

Not bad odds for a team that have been La Liga Champions 6 out of the last 10 years, and who are are effectively a 50/50 chance (with Real Madrid) to win it next year. If I wasn’t already a customer I’d be all over this like Leo Messi on a good tax scheme.
