This is Free Bet Blackjack, Pragmatic Play’s first major new game release for 2026.

Free Bet Blackjack gives players a free (house funded) Double Down and Split bet for certain hands. That’s the good news. The bad news is bets are pushed when the dealer busts on 22.

This format isn’t new. Evolution first introduced Live Free Bet Blackjack tables in 2019 and now have a large number of these tables to choose from. Save for a couple of minor rule differences discussed below Pragmatic’s tables are pretty much the same.

Here’s a summary of the rules applying on this table with key differences from ‘standard’ blackjack highlighted.

Played with 8 standard 52-card decks.
Dealer must draw on 16 or less and always stand on 17.
Double Down on any two initial cards.
Double Down after a Split, except when splitting Aces.
Double Down receives one card only.
Free Double Down on your two-card hard 9, 10 and 11 totals.
Split initial cards of equal value.
Free Split on all pairs except 10, J, Q, and K.
Only one Split per hand.
Split of Aces allowed.
No Hit on Split Aces.
Insurance is offered with an open Ace.
Blackjack pays 3 to 2.
Insurance pays 2 to 1.
Push the game round when hands tie.
Push the game round when the dealer busts with a score of 22

How the free bets work

When your hand qualifies for either of the free bets, the Free bet option appears during decision time.

In the below example, a Free Double is offered on a 6♠ 4♥, 10 total.

When you take the free bet, (which you’d be silly not to do) the house funds the additional bet. In the example a €5 initial bet is doubled to €10.

If the hand wins you collect even money on your initial bet and the doubled bet but you do not receive the house funded doubled bet itself. So a winning Free Double from a €5 starting bet returns a total of €15.

In simple terms, with a win on a Free Double you collect 3× your initial bet stake.

The Free Split works the same. The house funds the Split bet and if you win both hands you’ll collect 3× your bet stake. Win only one of the hands and you still collet 2×.

Dealer Push on 22

To enable the house to fund all these free bets while still maintaining an edge over players, a Dealer 22 push rule is introduced. If the Dealer busts on 22 all bets push rather than all active hands winning. That is, your bet stake is returned rather than paying even money, as shown in the example below.

Pragmatic Play Free Bet Blackjack Theoretical Return

Played optimally (using blackjack basic strategy) this table has a return to player (RTP) rate of 98.90%. This is a slightly higher RTP than Evolution’s Free Bet Blackjack table.

But you’ll still find a slightly better theoretical return on most regular live blackjack tables.

So which Free Bet Blackjack tables are better – Evolution’s or Pragmatic Play’s? Well here are the key differences and you can decide:

Evolution have more than twenty 7-seat Free Bet Blackjack tables (including casino private/branded tables), as well as 1-to-many deal tables where a seat is always available. Getting a seat on Evolution’s Free Bet Blackjack tables is a lot easier. There’s also the option of limit variety.
